High-Protein Dessert Without Protein Powder

A high-protein dessert without protein powder is dessert built from yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta, fruit, cocoa, oats, or chia — not from a scoop. The five desserts below were scaled from USDA FoodData Central on 8 October 2026. Each total is an estimate. Brands, draining cottage cheese, and “a drizzle” of honey will move it. This is cooking information, not medical advice. See the disclaimer.

The dinner hub for this cluster is 30g protein dinner recipes. Savory bites under a calorie cap live on high-protein snacks under 200 calories. For daily protein math, use how much protein to lose weight. For a week of menus, use the 7-day high-protein meal plan.

Already published — do not treat this page as a second copy: the chocolate cottage cheese cup on cottage cheese recipes for weight loss (about 181 kcal and 18 g protein: 2% cottage cheese, unsweetened cocoa, honey). Open that page for the blender method and the USDA table. The cocoa oat yogurt cup below is a different dessert: it uses Greek yogurt and oats, not cottage cheese alone.

What “without protein powder” means here

None of the recipes on this page list whey, casein, or plant protein powder. If you add a scoop, the scoop’s label replaces these totals. The high-protein overnight oats page does include one optional powder jar. That is a breakfast page, and the powder version is an option there, not the base. This dessert page stays powder-free on purpose.

Dessert is still part of the day’s calories. A 200 kcal dessert after a 500 kcal dinner is a different day from the same dessert after a 300 kcal dinner. Nothing here claims that a sweet plate causes fat loss.

Cocoa oat yogurt cup

About 198 kcal, 22 g protein, 26 g carbohydrate, 3 g fat. One serving. Stir-and-eat, or bake in a ramekin.

Cocoa is unsweetened dry powder (FDC 169593), not a sweetened drinking mix. Eight grams is about 18 kcal and is not a free flavoring. Yogurt is plain nonfat Greek yogurt (FDC 330137). Oats are dry oats (FDC 173904), weighed dry.

Ingredients

  • 180 g plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 12 g dry oats
  • 8 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 8 g honey

Method

  1. Stir version: Mix yogurt, cocoa, honey, and oats in a bowl until the cocoa dissolves. Eat, or chill 20 minutes so the oats soften.
  2. Bake version: Same mix in a small ramekin. Bake at about 175°C / 350°F until the top sets, about 15 to 20 minutes. Baking drives off a little water; the USDA table still uses the ingredient weights you started with.

This is not the chocolate cottage cheese cup. That recipe blends cottage cheese with cocoa and honey and lives on the cottage cheese recipes page.

Chia strawberry yogurt pudding

About 187 kcal, 20 g protein, 19 g carbohydrate, 4 g fat. One serving. Make it ahead.

Ingredients

  • 170 g plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 10 g dried chia seeds
  • 50 g raw strawberries, chopped
  • 6 g honey

Method

  1. Stir yogurt, chia, and honey. Fold in strawberries.
  2. Chill at least 30 minutes, or overnight. Stir before eating; chia gels and can settle.

If you want chia at breakfast instead, the yogurt jars on Greek yogurt breakfast meal prep are the meal-prep version of the same idea, with different weights.

Banana yogurt freeze bowl

About 196 kcal, 19 g protein, 29 g carbohydrate, 1 g fat. One serving. Soft-serve texture if you freeze and stir.

Ingredients

  • 180 g plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 70 g raw banana, sliced
  • 8 g honey

Method

  1. Mix yogurt, banana, and honey. Freeze in a shallow container about 45 to 90 minutes, stirring once, until thick but scoopable.
  2. Or freeze the banana slices ahead and blend them with the yogurt and honey just before eating. Blenders vary; stop before the mix turns to liquid.

Ripe bananas taste sweeter and still match the banana row closely enough for this estimate. Do not add peanut butter and keep the 196 kcal line: even 10 g of peanut butter is a new recipe.

Warm apple cottage bowl

About 183 kcal, 16 g protein, 23 g carbohydrate, 3 g fat. One serving.

Cottage cheese is lowfat 2% milkfat (FDC 328841). This is a warm fruit bowl, not a second chocolate cup and not the savory cottage snacks on the snacks page.

Ingredients

  • 140 g lowfat cottage cheese, 2% milkfat
  • 90 g apple, raw, with skin, diced
  • 6 g honey
  • Cinnamon, optional, not in the total

Method

  1. Warm the apple in a small pan with a spoon of water until soft, about 5 minutes. Or microwave the apple briefly.
  2. Spoon the cottage cheese into a bowl. Top with warm apple, honey, and cinnamon. Eat soon; warm fruit on cold cheese is the point.

Sodium note: this cheese lists about 321 mg sodium per 100 g. One hundred forty grams is already a salty dessert base. Do not add salt.

Ricotta berry whip

About 223 kcal, 21 g protein, 18 g carbohydrate, 8 g fat. One serving. Higher fat than the yogurt desserts because part-skim ricotta carries more fat than nonfat Greek yogurt.

Ricotta is part-skim (FDC 171248). Whole-milk ricotta is a different food.

Ingredients

  • 90 g part-skim ricotta
  • 100 g plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 70 g raw strawberries
  • 5 g honey

Method

  1. Whip or stir ricotta and yogurt until smooth.
  2. Top with strawberries and honey. Chill if you want it thicker.

How to use dessert without blowing the day

Pick one dessert, not three. Pair it with a dinner that already has a printed protein number from the 30 g protein dinner hub. If you still need a salty snack earlier in the day, use the under-200 snacks list and leave dessert for later, or skip the snack.

Breakfast-style sweet bowls that are meant as meals, not dessert, stay on high-protein breakfast for weight loss and the overnight oats page. Do not double-count the same yogurt jar as breakfast and dessert.

FAQ

Can a dessert help with weight loss?

A dessert does not cause weight loss. It can fit a day that already has a calorie and protein plan. These recipes only show estimated calories and protein at the listed weights.

Which dessert on this page has the most protein?

The cocoa oat yogurt cup rounds to 22 g. The chocolate cottage cheese cup on the linked cottage cheese page is about 18 g. The warm apple cottage bowl is the lowest protein dessert written here at 16 g.

Why not just use protein powder in dessert?

You can if you want. This page is for kitchens that do not have a scoop, or for people who prefer ordinary dairy and fruit. If you add powder, use the powder label and do not keep these totals.

Is the chocolate cottage cheese cup on this page?

No. It is already published on cottage cheese recipes for weight loss. This page links to it so the method is not copied twice.

Why might my app show different numbers?

Apps often use branded yogurt or a different gram weight. These tables use specific USDA FoodData Central IDs. Your package label wins when it disagrees.
